Description
340 hp, 4.942 cc alloy 12-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension with unequal length A-arms, twin rear coil springs, an anti-roll bar, and hydraulic dampers, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.
Ferrari's latest Berlinetta Boxer model first appeared at the 1981 Frankfurt Salon and from a distance looked very similar to the outgoing model. The 512 BBi replaced the four Weber carburetors of the 512 BB with a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, hence the “i” in 512 BBi. This upgrade helped make the Berlinetta Boxer much more manageable and user-friendly, as well as easier to maintain. Apart from its new fuel injection, the 512 BBi remained largely unchanged from its carbureted brother, with the exception of a few minor details. Exposed driving lights and front and rectangular rear parking lights were installed, the aluminum grille was shortened, and a new hood was created for the rear exhaust. Only 1.007 examples were produced from 1981 to 1984 before production switched to the Ferrari Testarossa.
Presented in exceptionally original condition, the car retains its matching numbers engine and gearbox and is finished in its original red and black color combination. All four wheels are fitted with what are likely their original Michelin TRX tires, and the interior is in excellent, well-preserved and original condition. The only deviation from the original is the modern Alpine CD player installed in the dashboard. Furthermore, the odometer reading of 3.700 miles is believed to be original, especially considering the exceptional condition of the car.
Beautiful driver's cars that offer plenty of performance, reliability and refinement, the 512 BBi is a truly great car in every respect. Many consider it one of the best Ferrari road cars of the 80s and also one of the few Ferraris to have been in the Riverside Automotive Museum Collection.
