History
Fiat 1900, introduced in 1952, was a luxury model that used the same bodywork as the 1400 but came with a 1,9-liter engine and more extensive equipment. From 1953 the car was also introduced Austria built under license by Steyr-Daimler-Puch as the Steyr 2000 and was equipped with a 2,0-liter Steyr-engine.
The Fiat 1900 was officially presented on it Paris Motor Show in 1952. It was a further development of the Fiat 1400 that appeared two years earlier. The 1900 largely adopted the bodywork and technology of the 1400, but received more chrome trim elements, a modified radiator grille and rectangular direction indicators. The car was offered in three versions: a four-door sedan, a two-door convertible and a two-door “Granluce” coupe.
The water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine was also carried over from the 1400, but the cylinder capacity was increased to 1901 cc with initially 42,5 kW (58 hp) and later 44 kW (60 hp). This resulted in a top speed of 130 km/h. Engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, which was unusual at the time. The gear stick was placed on the steering column. There was also one hydraulically operated clutch available, Fiat's first step towards one automatic gearbox.
In 1954 Fiat launched a new version, the Fiat 1900 A, whose engine power was increased to 51 kW (70 hp). The most important changes were the addition of two fog lights integrated into the grille, a significantly larger rear window and a completely redesigned dashboard.
In 1956 the car received another facelift. This Fiat 1900 B contained only some minor changes. The radiator grille was again modified, with a single fog lamp in the center. The two fog lights were retained on the Granluce. Engine power was increased to 59 kW (80 hp), with a top speed of 145 km/h.
Production of the Fiat 1900 ended in 1958, the car was succeeded in 1959 by the Fiat 1800 for sale and the Fiat 2100 for sale .
