Description
De Fiat 500 for sale became, as successor to the Fiat Topolino, introduced in 1957 by FIAT and is one of the smallest cars to be mass-produced.
The model was smaller than the one introduced two years earlier Fiat 600 for sale and was designed in such a way that as little steel as possible was used. The roof was partly made of fabric, so it could be opened, but this was designed to save some extra steel and at the same time make the car lighter. The Fiat 500 was intended to be Italian car for the people. Not only cheap but also easy to maintain. The parts were simple and easily available, allowing consumers to do the maintenance themselves. The two-cylinder engine was placed in the back. Furthermore, the car proved to be easy to navigate through narrow streets and could be parked in small places, making the car easy to use, especially in Italian cities.
Everything 1965 became the Fiat 500 with so-called suicide doors, i.e. opening the doors forward, delivered. The first model was the New 500 (1957–1961). The engine produced 13 hp and had a fabric roof that could be opened all the way to the rear. The Nuova 500 Sport (1958–1960) had a more powerful engine and an all-metal roof. From 1959 it was also optionally available with a fabric roof. The 500 D (1960–1965) had a 17 hp engine and a smaller fabric roof, with the option of a roof that opened all the way to the rear.
De 500 F, also Sedan (1965–1973) was the first model with regular car doors.
