Fiat / Autobianchi 500 Giardiniera Estate Car

In the spring of 1960, FIAT added a Giardiniera (gardener) station wagon to its Nuova 500 range. Built on a longer wheelbase than the sedan, the Giardiniera had a single-hinged rear door and carried the engine horizontally under the rear loading platform, increasing luggage space. When testing a Giardiniera in 1961, Autocar was extremely impressed; the miniature station wagon proved capable of carrying four adults and 127 kg of luggage (or one adult and 200 kg), while returning exceptional fuel economy, while the maximum speed was exactly 90 mph (96,5 km/h). From the spring of 1968, Giardiniera production was transferred to FIAT's partner Autobianchi, eventually ending in 1977.

Registered in the Sicilian province of Caltanissetta, this charming Giardiniera is believed to have lived most of its life in sunny Sicily before being purchased by the current seller earlier this year. Finished in the original color of bianco with a contrasting black vinyl interior, it has recently benefited from the installation of new bumpers and a new fuel tank. During a recent short test drive the car started and performed very well and is sure to put a smile on the happy new owner's face. Offered with Italian registration documents.
