The Ford Escort Mk1 RS 2000 has played a significant role in motorsport history and is still considered one of the most iconic cars in motorsport today. Developed specifically for motorsport use, it began its competitive career in the early 1970s and has competed in national and international events.
This RS 2000 has been racing since the early 1980s and has undergone further development in recent years to meet the growing demands of today's historic motorsport. The owner has relied on the experience and expertise of one of the most successful tuners in European motorsport history: Brauneiser Renntechnik. Brauneiser has competed in German and European circuit racing since 1977 and has won several championships with drivers like Olaf Manthey and Jörg van Ommen, including the European Touring Car Championship, the German Circuit Championship, the Ford Sports Cup, and the German Racing Trophy.
The Escort was recently very successful in the Belcar Historic Cup in Belgium, one of the most competitive series in European historic racing, where it won its class and became Historic Champion several times. It recently won its class in its final race, the Westfalentrophy at the Nürburgring in October 2024.
Technical highlights include a Holbay Warrior 16-valve cylinder head on a Cosworth 200 2,3-liter engine block. After just 10 hours of running, this powerful engine develops 304 hp and 295 Nm of torque. Combined with a vehicle weight of just 890 kg, this results in stunning performance. At the same time, great emphasis has been placed on originality. For example, original Broadspeed fender flares were fitted, as well as decentralized strut bearings based on the 1975 Zakspeed factory version. In addition, this car features the wheel bearing assembly from the 1972 Weslake Capri; the rear axle oil cooling system from the 1974 Cosworth Capri; the original 1972 Weslake Capri two-piston brake calipers; the original ZF five-speed gearbox; and original BBS E50 rims on the front axle and BBS E30 rims on the rear axle, each 10x15″.
Complete with a RAC of Belgium Technical Passport, this exceptionally well-specified car is likely one of the most competitive Ford Escorts in European historic racing.
