Description
The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth could not be beaten on the track, and the car also had to be taken into account on the rally test. Participation in motorsport also required a street version of the Cossie to be offered, most of which ended up in trees and in ditches.
In collaboration with Cosworth – who had also developed the RS200 engine – Ford's Special Vehicle Engineering department began building a new racing and rally weapon. Partly because of its rear-wheel drive, the three-door Sierra was considered the most suitable for this. Based on the four-cylinder Pinto engine, Cosworth developed a two-liter engine with double overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder and a turbo. For use in the street version of the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth (of which at least 5000 had to be built according to homologation requirements), the engine power was adjusted to 150 kW, or 204 hp.
