Description
The Porsche 356 was the first car Porsche ever made. It was a light, small sports car with the engine over the rear wheels. The 356 was designed in Gmünd, where Volkswagen engineer Ferdinand Porsche moved during World War II. He had been involved in the development of the Volkswagen Beetle in the 30s. Porsche used many parts from the Beetle for production, such as the air-cooled boxer engine. The Porsche 356 was a four-seater, but only two emergency seats were fitted in the rear.
In 1950, production of the Porsche 356 moved to Stuttgart, Germany. Over the years, the model was modified several more times. The engine power was increased to 1286 cc and later to 1.582 cc. The Porsche 356 was in production until 1965 and was succeeded by the Porsche 911.
We went looking for a nice example to examine and ended up with this 356 SC from 1964. The C variant was the fourth and last variant of the 356. The SC was the sports edition. He squeezed 95 hp from his 1.6 four-cylinder and got disc brakes for the first time. It was introduced in 1963 and was of course the most developed 356.
