The catalog of the Clément range for the year 1902 described the type B model in these terms: “This car is the reduction of our light cars, with a graceful appearance, the best service for a minimum purchase price”
With its Clément single cylinder engine cooled by a water pump, its 2-speed gearbox by universal joint and its Dunlop heel tires, this car nevertheless retained modern solutions for the time. The example shown is exceptional: it was purchased new in 1902 by a parish priest of Eure et Loire and subsequently remained in the family until 1966, the year in which it was purchased by Doctor Ferrand, a famous Sarthois collector from the very beginning. The car was on display for a long time at the Musée Automobile de la Sarthe before it became the property of another collector in 1982 who kept it until 2000. The latter took part in the Tour du Léman as well as the London-Brighton in 1996.
Since 2003, this veteran has been in the same family and has undergone a thorough, high-quality restoration, retaining the many fine details typical of well-preserved cars. The original carburetor has been retained, but has been replaced by a Longuemare that is easier to adjust. A handbrake has been adapted for greater safety. We were pleased to note that the single cylinder literally started with a quarter turn. This beautiful Clément is ready to participate in the most selective of the veteran rallies.
