Description
The Mercedes 230 SL was introduced in 1963 and had a 2300cc 6-cylinder with 150 hp. The car was soon nicknamed Pagoda because of it. the hard top. The 250 SL followed later, but this was an intermediate model for Mercedes with a 2500cc 6 cyl.
Finally, the 280 SL with 170 hp 2800cc 6 cyl was released from 1968 to 1971.
This car had 20 hp more, but it was also heavier, so the performance remained pretty much the same (230 is a bit sportier).
The SL was supplied with a 4-speed gearbox as standard, an automatic transmission or a 5-speed ZF gearbox (very rare) was optionally available with 4 different transmission ratios (i.e. short or long).
A total of approximately 48.000 W113 units were produced.
