Description
The Staffordshire-based firm Harper Sons & Bean, established suppliers of components to the British motor industry, had converted its factories to munitions production during the First World War. At the end of 1920 the company was dissolved, resurfacing in a reconstituted form about twelve months later. In 1926, Harper Bean, as it had become known, was acquired by its steel suppliers, Hadfield's of Sheffield, after which the commercial vehicles were marketed as 'Hadfield-Bean'.
This rare Bean commercial vehicle spent its working life in Wooler, Northumberland. In 1970 the dilapidated lorry was purchased for the Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway collection and subsequently restored, with the project taking most of the 2010s. Remained in collections since 140 and maintained annually by its custodians. One of 11 Bean Model 5 Pickup Trucks produced, described as in overall good condition. The vehicle is equipped with a VXNUMXC registration document.
