Description
Henschel & Sohn was founded in 1810 in Kassel, Germany by Georg Christian Carl Henschel.
Originally a blacksmith and machine shop, the company expanded in 1848 to include steam engines and locomotives. Between 1870 and 1900, Henschel expanded its production of industrial machinery, both for Germany and export markets. In 1908, Henschel began producing light trucks.
Since 1925 the company was a major producer of trucks for the German army and civilian transport.
During World War II, Henschel produced only military vehicles such as the Tiger 1 tank.
From 1950, Henschel restarted civilian production with new models, the HS140 and HS150, both of which became popular in Europe. The HS 140 remained in the range until around 1961. In later years, more powerful engines were used, allowing later models to reach approximately 192 hp.
Since the 70s, Henschel has disappeared as an independent truck manufacturer, with the focus shifting to technology and engineering within larger German conglomerates.
