Renault magnum

The Magnum was launched in 1990 and immediately stood out with its revolutionary cabin. The last example rolled off the production line in 2013.

It was the first truck to have a completely flat floor without an engine tunnel. This gave drivers an enormous amount of living space – almost like standing in a small room.

The first Magnums were delivered with Mack engines (Renault owned Mack Trucks at the time), later also with Volvo D13 engines after the collaboration within the Volvo Group.

In 1991, the Magnum was voted International Truck of the Year.

Drivers switching from a conventional tractor unit were often impressed by the panoramic view provided by the high seating and large windows. But some also found it difficult to adjust – they said they felt just like a bus driver.

You could actually “stand upright” in the Magnum (1,85m interior height), which was exceptional at the time.

Drivers often joked that you had to "climb up" the Magnum as if you were entering an apartment. Some called it the penthouse of trucks.
