Description
The Volvo F89, perhaps one of the most legendary trucks of the 70s.
It was Volvo's top heavy-duty truck at the time, intended for international transport, heavy combinations and long distances.
The F89 immediately gained a reputation as strong, reliable and comfortable – exactly what was needed in the emerging international transport sector.
The F89 was produced until 1977, when it was succeeded by the Volvo F10 and F12 (more modern cabs, more aerodynamic).
In the Netherlands, the F89 was a popular truck with international companies such as Van Gend & Loos.
Volvo saw that the competition (especially Scania with its LB140 V8) was producing increasingly powerful engines. Therefore, the 12-liter TD120 engine was introduced in the F89: a huge step forward.
In 1971 it was officially declared the most powerful European truck.
