Citroën 2CV 4×4 Sahara This Citroën 2CV, also known as the 'Ugly Duckling', has two engines and four-wheel drive. The rear engine, located in the trunk, is mounted backwards, and the gearboxes are connected by connecting rods. One of the engines can be switched off, for example to save fuel. This 'Sahara' model, introduced in 1958, is intended for expeditions in the French colonies, where four-wheel drive is necessary. Since Citroën did not have an engine powerful enough for four-wheel drive, two coupled engines were chosen. Despite the cylinder capacity of only 425 cc per engine, off-road performance is considerable. Production remains limited to 694 units, as the car is not intended for general use. Outside the colonies, the Sahara is widely used in Spain and by the Swiss postal services; reportedly, two Sahara 2CVs were even used by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
