General information:
The LWB 250 GT theme was extended with the 2+2 model 250 GT/E, the first large Ferrari with four seats (four-seaters had previously been produced in very small numbers). Interior space was increased by moving the engine forward in the chassis. The rear seat was suitable for children, but small for adults. Pirelli Cinturato 185VR15 (CA67) tyres were original equipment. The standard wheels used on Series 1 were the Borrani RW3591, with Series 2 and 3 fitted with the Borrani RW3690 as standard.[26]
Engine power was stated at 240 hp (177 kW; 237 PS).
Nearly 1.000 GT/Es were built by Pininfarina, with prototypes starting in 1959 and continuing in three series until 1963. The model was followed by the visually similar 330 America, which shared the chassis of the 250 GT/E but the larger 4,0 L engine from the 330 series.
The large production run of the GT/E was a major contributor to Ferrari's financial well-being in the early 11.500s. The suggested retail price of the GT/E was $XNUMX.
A 250 GT/E can be seen in The Wrong Arm of the Law, a film starring Peter Sellers.
