Mercedes Benz 280 SL Pagoda
The Mercedes 230 SL was introduced in 1963 and featured a 2300cc 6-cylinder engine with 150 hp. The car quickly earned the nickname "Pagoda" due to its hardtop. The 250 SL followed later, but for Mercedes, this was an intermediate model with a 2500cc 6-cylinder. Finally, the 280 SL arrived with a 170 hp 2800cc 6-cylinder engine from 1968 to 1971. Although this car had 20 hp more, it was also heavier, so performance remained fairly similar (the 230 is somewhat sportier). The SL came standard with a 4-speed manual transmission; optionally, an automatic or a ZF 5-speed (very rare) was available with four different gear ratios (i.e., short or long). In total, approximately 48.000 W113s were produced.
